It is a dangerous thing to unbelieve something only because it frightens you.” – Chesire, Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Chesire wasn’t wrong. It is dangerous to unbelieve in things because of fear. Though, after thinking about this quote for days, I realised, most of the time, we unbelieve in things without even realising. Things such as death and growth, sometimes even love.

Love. It’s a scary word. It’s a scary thought and god knows it’s a scary thing. I’m sure everyone dreams of love, but it is possible to dream of something that may scare you in reality. After all, people don’t wake from eerie dreams without feeling paranoid. I believe many people who dream of love are the same. And after certain heartbreaks within relationships, families and selves, there comes a time where people unbelieve in love because it frightens them. And you would think that without the belief of love, you are safe because if you don’t believe in it, it won’t reach you, won’t affect you. However, it is quite the opposite. By not believing in love, or that love may exist in your life, it is quite possible that love will occur without you realising, and it’s those loves, the unsuspecting ones, that are a danger to us. We believe we don’t love someone, we can survive without them. That is, until we have to do it, survive without them, I mean, and the pain kicks in, the heart tears and confusion fills the body because, well, why are we in such pain? We don’t feel love. We don’t believe in love. So, why are we tearing at the seams for this person that is just another person? Well, quite simply because we did love them. And that’s why it hurts so much. And the pain from this, is the realisation of the love we turned a blind eye to because of fear. It’s the realisation that this person could have meant the world to us, they could have been our life. But, we wasted that time by unbelieving in something that can be found everywhere. Love does not cease to exist just because we fear it.

The same as how death does not disappear because we believe in forever.

The same as how time does not stop because we believe in the past.

Just the same as how we do not dream because we believe that hope is for suckers.

We dream with hearts full of hope or heartbreak.

Time continues with or without us.

Death is real, forever is not.

And love is everywhere, whether we choose to embrace it or try to unbelieve in it.
